Eyelid surgery is a very popular surgery. Eyelid surgery is one of the most common types of cosmetic surgery performed. Eyelid surgery is used to reconstruct the eyelid crease to improve the appearance of the eye. Eyelid surgery is also used to get rid of excess skin and fat that is around the lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can create a smooth look around the eyes and make the face look more youthful.

Side Effects Associated With Eyelid Surgery

A normal side effect associated with eyelid surgery is bruising occurs and lasts for about one week. Also swelling occurs as a side effect of eyelid surgery. The swelling usually lasts for about one week. The swelling and bruising may cause some discomfort.

Anesthetics generally cause some side effects to occur. One side effect of anesthesia used during eyelid surgery is grogginess that usually lasts for the remainder of the day after the eyelid surgery. Also side effects can include nausea and vomiting for the remainder of the day after eyelid surgery due to the anesthesia that was used during the eyelid surgery.

Risks Associated With Eyelid Surgery

There are a few risks associated with eyelid surgery. These things generally do not occur; however, these risks do exist and it is important to know the things that could possibly happen due to eyelid surgery.

A risk associated with eyelid surgery is the possibility of the area around the eye being extremely swollen and bruised for a few weeks after the eyelid surgery. The area may also be extremely tender for a few weeks after the eyelid surgery.

Scars may be visible, pink and very visible for the first few weeks. Blurry vision may occur after eyelid surgery. The actual eye may become red after eyelid surgery.

Other risks involved are the possibility of excessive bleeding during or after eyelid surgery. Infection may occur after eyelid surgery.
