Brighten Your Outlook With Blepharoplasty in Melbourne

eyesAs we age, our bodies take on a new shape. The youthful skin we once had diminishes to the sight of drooping and wrinkled skin that only seems to worsen with time. These signs of aging seem to intensify in the delicate tissue that surrounds the eyes. Fortunately there is a way to greatly improve your appearance. For individuals looking for a brighter, more youthful appearance, Dr. David Ross of Bayside Plastic Surgery may recommend blepharoplasty.

What is blepharoplasty?

shutterstock_image2Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyelids. Surgery can be performed on the top or bottom eyelid, or both if needed. The procedure is used to treat loose and baggy eyelids as well as excessively puffy eyelids.

What causes eye tissue to sag?

blepharoplasty-eyelid-surgery-miami-3As we age, muscle weakens and fat deposits shift to the surface. The weakened muscles are no longer able to support the tissue the same, causing it to droop and sag. When the fat deposits shift to the surface, the eyes take on a puffy appearance. Sometimes the drooping or puffy tissue can even obstruct the eyesight, impairing their vision in the process.

Am I a good candidate for eyelid surgery?

plastic surgeryIf you experience sagging or drooping eyes and are unhappy with your appearance, you may be a good candidate for blepharoplasty. Candidates should be healthy with no serious eye conditions, and should have a clear understanding of their expectations for the procedure.

During your consultation, Dr. Ross will examine the skin’s condition and your overall health to determine if blepharoplasty is right for you. Some candidates may be recommended for other procedures, like a forehead lift, to achieve better results.

What should I expect during the procedure?

Blepharoplasty-Eyelid-Cosmetic-Surgery-Dubai-UAEPatients will be administered local anaesthetic or general anaesthesia depending on the patient’s individual needs. An incision will be made within the natural creases of the eye to hide any scarring. Excess skin is removed and excess fat can be repositioned or removed entirely. Any incision will be closed with sutures and may be covered with surgical tape or skin adhesives. The procedure typically takes one to two hours.

What is the recovery process like?

Some minor swelling and bruising is expected following the procedure. Patients will return to Bayside Plastic Surgery to have any sutures removed within five to seven days, during which Dr. Ross will ensure the healing process is successful. Most patients are able to return to work within seven to 10 days. Some minor vision problems may occur during the healing process, but will diminish as the recovery process progresses.
