Breast Lift – Who is a Good Candidate

While women would love to always have perky breasts that stay where they are supposed to, with age and children, gravity is bound to take over, resulting in sagging breasts that are not attractive, even when wearing a supportive bra. They can even get to the point where the woman has lower self-esteem and is not proud of her appearance. As a result, more and more women are turning to a breast lift to reverse this process and turn back the hands of time.

The breast lift procedure, officially named mastopexy, typically involves the removal of excess skin and tightening the surrounding breast tissue to reshape and support the breasts. This process will not only raise the breasts but also firm them up. This procedure will not increase or decrease the size of the breasts and if women want to change the actual size of the breasts, the procedure would need to be coupled with breast augmentation or breast reduction, as the case may be. An augmentation would require either saline or silicone breast implants.

The best candidates for breast lifts are women who are in good health and do not smoke, because of complications that can arise from surgery. Women who are troubled by their sagging breasts are not the only ones that can benefit from a breast lift. The surgery can also help when the breasts have become elongated, the nipples point downward, and especially when one breast is lower than the other. Although even breasts that are incredibly sagging can be corrected through this surgery, those who have moderate issues can also see marked improvement.

It does not really matter how the woman’s breast got into the present condition. Any woman with sagging breasts can benefit, whether they became that way because of pregnancy, breast-feeding, aging, or weight fluctuations. Because the resulting circumstances of the breast tissue and skin are the same, the procedure is generally the same for each of these situations.

This is a serious procedure with possibly dangerous side effects, like any surgery, and you should make sure to have an extensive discussion with your plastic surgeon about whether this is the best option for you before you proceed.
