If you've been considering having breast augmentation surgery, you may find yourself with a lot of questions about the procedure itself, and what you can expect. Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions about breast augmentation, to help aid you in your decision of whether breast augmentation is right for you.
What types of breast implants are available?
There are two types of breast implants that are used for
breast augmentation surgery. These implants are made either from saline or from silicone. There are both pros and cons to using each of the types of implant on the market, so it is best to discuss your options with a plastic surgeon so that you can determine which implant will work best for you.
Is breast augmentation dangerous?
With modern advances that have been made in the cosmetic surgery industry, breast augmentation is extremely safe. With that said, there are complications that can occur as with any type of surgery you might receive. Some of these complications can include infection of incisions and leaking implants. Your
plastic surgeon will be able to explain all of the complications that may arise, however keep in mind that these complications are quite rare.
Does breast augmentation surgery hurt?
You will be put under anesthesia for your surgery, so there no risk of pain during the procedure. The healing period however, can be quite painful and will vary from person to person, as well as the extent of your procedure. You will invariably have swelling, bruising, and pain when you move for the first few days, and complete recovery can take a few weeks. Most women however, find that the after affects of breast augmentation surgery are not that bad, and fade rather quickly.
How long will my breast implants last?
On average, most breast implants last around 16 years. Breast implants that are used in breast augmentation surgery are not lifetime devices. More than likely, you will inevitably have to have another surgery at some point down the road to replace or at least remove your breast implants. While some women have had their implants last for over 20 years, this is not really common and you can expect to have another surgery for your implants at some point in your life.
