Enhance Your Figure through Breast Augmentation with Implants
Breast augmentation is a popular procedure designed to help women achieve a more proportionate, flattering breast shape and size. Breast augmentation with breast implants is ideal for women who wish to enhance their curves, add fullness and lift to sagging breasts, or have their breast(s) reconstructed following mastectomy surgery. As breast enhancement is a highly individualized procedure, we offer several breast augmentation techniques at our Melbourne plastic surgery practice. Patients will have the opportunity to discuss their surgical options with Dr. David Ross.
During your breast augmentation consultation, Dr. Ross will go over every aspect of your breast implant procedure, including incision placement options (i.e., via armpit, beneath the breast, or around the nipple), and implant contents material (silicone vs. saline). Based on your aesthetic goals and a careful assessment of your chest and body dimensions, Dr. Ross will help you determine the appropriate size and style for your breast implants at the time of your consultation. He will also discuss the possibility of combining your breast augmentation procedure with other aesthetic treatments such as tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, as part of a more comprehensive body contouring plan.
The information below is designed to provide a brief overview of breast augmentation surgery. It is advisable to read this information prior to arranging your initial consultation. Dr. Ross has also written some further personal views about breast augmentation with implants based on his experience in over 800 cases, which we invite you to consider.

Who is a candidate for breast augmentation with implants?
If you feel your breasts are too small or uneven, breast augmentation with breast implants may be the ideal procedure to enhance your body image. Breast implants can be used to add size to smaller chests and to even out all severities of asymmetrical breasts. Breast implants can be combined with a breast lift at our plastic surgery practice to add volume to breasts altered by age, pregnancy, weight loss, or nursing. Implants of various sizes and styles may also be incorporated into a breast reconstruction treatment plan for women who have undergone a mastectomy.
What can I expect during and after breast augmentation surgery?
Breast augmentation surgery will require only a short hospital stay. Usually the procedure takes between 90 and 120 minutes to perform. Most patients undergo the procedure as a day surgery case but an overnight stay can be arranged. Patients can expect some swelling and bruising for a couple of weeks following surgery, and normal activities can be resumed as soon as both patient and doctor feel comfortable with the progression of the recovery. Following breast implant surgery, there will be minimal scarring (a few centimetres long) that will gradually fade over time. Some patients may develop scar tissue (capsular contracture) around their breast implants, causing the implants to feel overly firm. As with any surgery, infection and bleeding following breast augmentation is always a risk. Patients should be aware that revisional breast augmentation surgery may be required if the breast implants leak or break. This is not a common occurrence and is discussed in further detail in Dr. Ross’s personal views on breast augmentation.
Your Beautiful New Body Awaits
